Adding to Continental\u2019s extensive portfolio, the CD-170R represents a new product segment, bringing an efficient Jet-A piston engine solution to the general aviation market. This milestone marks Continental\u2019s first certified Jet-A FADEC-controlled helicopter piston engine, adding to the company\u2019s 120-year legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CD-170R is an evolution of the highly regarded CD-170 engine. With 170 horsepower, this turbocharged Diesel piston engine delivers exceptional fuel efficiency, reliability, and ease of engine management. The CD-170R consumes approximately 7.9 gallons of Jet-A1 per hour during cruise and features a 1200-hour Time Between Replacement (TBR), with potential for extension over time. Utilizing the helicopter\u2019s transmission gearbox allowed for the elimination of the engine-integrated gearbox, reducing the engine\u2019s weight by 37 pounds from its standard version. This resulted in an enhanced power-to-weight ratio and therefore improving rotorcraft performance. Additionally, the Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system simplifies engine management, allowing pilots to focus on controlling the aircraft during all phases of flight.
